Top Frequently Asked Questions from Removals and Storage Clients
June 25, 2019
As the leading provider of removals,
storage, and packing services across the county of Kent, many of our customers
come to us with their queries about the moving process and how it all works.
Since certain questions crop up all the
time, we’ve compiled this list of the more frequent queries we receive, along
with our answers.
Domestic Removals Services
These are the most common questions
concerning our domestic removals services.
How far in advance do I need to book my moving date?
While we can sometime fit customers in at
the last minute, we always recommend that you book your moving slot as early as
possible in order to guarantee our availability. Usually six to eight weeks in
advance offers you the best chance of securing the date you want.
Do I need to disassemble my furniture, or will your movers do it?
If you need us to help with things like
dismantling and reassembling furniture and the like, then we are happy to do
so, but you need to make us aware of it before the day itself, so that we can
account for it in our timetable for the day, and work out any additional costs.
Do I need to arrange a parking permit for the removal van?
This very much depends on the parking
regulations in your particular street and how they pertain to large vehicles.
It will be up to you as the customer to arrange such a permit, and our driver will
not be held liable if one isn’t obtained. If in doubt, give your local council
How long will the removals process take on the day?
This can vary greatly depending on the
distance between the properties you’re moving from and to. As far as the
loading and unloading is concerned, we would expect the process to take between
60 and 90 minutes at either end, assuming that everything is already
dismantled, packed up, and ready to go when we get there.
Are my belongings insured throughout the process?
At Farrant Removals & Storage your belongings are fully covered by our insurance policy for the duration that they are in our care. This means that from the moment we start loading the van, to the moment the last box is unloaded at your new home, you are covered against accidental damage, loss, fire, and theft.
Commercial Removals Services
These are the most common questions
concerning our commercial removals services.
How do you operate a commercial move?
We provide a complete end-to-end service
for our commercial clients, just as we do for our private customers. One of our
team will act as a moving manager and be your main point of contact. They will
run through your business’ requirements and put together a moving package that
meets all of those individual needs as closely as possible, thus minimising the
impact that any move will have on your business or your employees.
How much notice do I need to give for a commercial move?
Ideally, we need as much notice as you can
give us, with 10 to 12 weeks being the usual amount of time we’d need to fit
you into our schedule and to guarantee a removals team able to work around your
specific requirements. However, if the move has come as a shock to you and your
company and you need help moving within a shorter timeframe, feel free to give
us a call. Sometimes we have a gap in our schedule that might suit you
Will you move computer and telephony hardware?
Our team can certainly move the physical
equipment for you and unload it wherever it needs to go in your new office
building. However, as we are not trained in the installation of computer or
telephony equipment, you will need qualified professionals to do that aspect of
How can I limit service disruption during an office move?
Among the options we will discuss with you
during your initial consultation are such things as conducting your office move
outside of regular working hours, including weekends, limiting the impact of
the change in premises on your day-to-day running of the business.
These are the most common questions
concerning our storage services.
Is there a minimum amount of time I have to keep my belongings in storage for?
Whether you want to hire a self-storage
unit for a week or a decade, the team at Farrant Removals & Storage can put
together a storage package that works right for you. Long-term packages offer
better value than short-term, which is only to be expected, but we’re more than
happy to assist clients who only need storage space for a small window of time.
Can I change the length of my storage term midway through?
Of course you can. When you first set up
your storage contract, we will try to agree on the best duration to suit your
needs at the time, but we understand that requirements can change. In some
instances (usually cancelling a long-term contract) we may need to impose a
charge for cancelling too early, but this will be discussed in the early stages.
Do I need to bring my belongings to the storage facility myself?
You can do. Alternatively, why not take
advantage of the fact that we are both a storage and a removal company, and
that we have our own fleet of vehicles available to transport your goods to the
Will my items be safe in your storage facility?
We pride ourselves on the security measures
we have in place for our storage customers. Our main facility includes a 24/7
CCTV system, keeping an eye on your storage unit around the clock, so you can
be sure that your belongings are safe whilst in our care.
Will my items be insured whilst in your storage facility?
Yes, our storage facility is fully-insured
against fire, theft, and accidental damage, cover that extends to your
belongings while they remain in our charge.
Will I have access to my items during the time that they are in storage?
Of course. When you use our storage
facility you will be presented with a key that unlocks your specific unit and
you are free to add or remove items (or simply to visit them) at your leisure.
Are your storage solutions for domestic customers only?
While most of our storage units are used by individuals, commercial customers are also welcome to utilize them. Whether they are being used to store stock or equipment or being used as a document archive, our long-term storage solutions make a great choice for any business owner.
These are the most common questions concerning
our packing services.
Do I really need a packing service?
Only you can answer that question.
Certainly we’re happy for you to do all the packing yourself if that’s what
you’d prefer. Some find packing a personal thing that they’re not prepared to
entrust to a third party, others find it one of the hardest parts of the move
and would like nothing better than to pass it on to someone else. Ultimately,
it’s down to you.
I can handle most of the packing, I just need help with a few bits. Can you help me?
We offer a range of packing solutions. If
you want us to clear the entire house, then we can do that. If you just want us
to put our expertise towards the packing of certain delicate or valuable items,
then we can manage that too. Just let us know when you make your call.
Will you only pack for a removals job?
While most of our packing services are
linked to a house move for the client in question, we’re certainly not limited
to it. If you’re putting stuff into storage, you can hire us to perform the
same high standard of packing.
Are my items insured during the packing process?
While your belongings are insured during
the move itself, that doesn’t apply to the packing process. Of course, or team
of experienced and well-trained packers will make every effort to ensure that
your items remain in pristine condition.
What do I need to have ready before you start packing?
Our packing process is designed to be quick
and efficient. We will wrap and pack your items swiftly and professionally,
boxing up everything in each of the rooms you direct us to (unless asked not
to, of course). What we won’t do, is sort out your belongings. If it’s in the
room, it goes in the box – any decluttering needs to be done before we arrive!
I’m planning on packing myself. Can you tell me where I can find good quality boxes?
The best place to get good packing
materials is direct from us. When we pack ourselves we only use the best boxes,
bubble wrap, and packing tape, and we’re happy to provide you with the same,
should you choose to handle the boxing up yourself.
